From Auburn Media Relations:

AUBURN - Ty Evans, a former All-American at Wisconsin-Whitewater and 10-year collegiate coaching veteran, has been hired as an assistant women's basketball coach, head coach Terri Williams-Flournoy announced Thursday. Evans, who was on Williams-Flournoy's staff at Georgetown from 2005-07, comes to The Plains after spending the last five seasons at Alabama.

"Ty is a good fit for me because I wanted somebody that knew the state of Alabama and I already have a great relationship with him having worked with me at Georgetown," said Williams-Flournoy. "He has established himself as a very good recruiter in the Alabama area. He has developed great relationships with the AAU and high school coaches in the area, they all had great things to say about him. This was an easy decision for me."

Evans, a native of Beloit, Wisc., is entering his second stint under new Auburn head coach Terri Williams-Flournoy. Prior to going to Alabama, Evans spent two seasons under Williams-Flournoy at Georgetown. At Auburn, he will coach the point guards while also assisting with recruiting.

"Ty has grown so much as a coach since his time at Georgetown," said Williams-Flournoy. "The SEC is such a tough and competitive conference and I have been able to see the things he has put into action in his time in the league. Ty helped us get our start at Georgetown and I am excited to have him back on staff."

At Alabama, Evans coached the post players and helped his players earn All-SEC honors in three of his five seasons. He was also instrumental in coaching the Crimson Tide to a WNIT Sweet 16 appearance in 2011, the team's first post-season trip since 2002.

Also heavily involved in recruiting, Evans brought national attention to Alabama in 2010 and 2011 after securing top-20 recruiting classes both years.

In his two seasons at Georgetown, he assumed every role on the Hoya staff, including a brief stint as recruiting coordinator and was instrumental in the recruiting and re-building efforts that would eventually turn Georgetown into a perennial NCAA Tournament team.

Evans began his collegiate coaching career at Saint Louis University where he served as an assistant coach during the 2001-02 season. After a season coaching professionally overseas, he returned to Saint Louis as assistant coach during the 2003-04 and 2004-05 seasons. He directed the Billikens' recruiting efforts during his time with the team and worked with the post players.

A 1995 graduate of the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater, Evans earned a degree in secondary education while serving as a co-captain on the basketball team for two seasons. He was a first team All-American for the Warhawks following the 1994-95 campaign. Evans garnered two-straight all-conference honors and led the Warhawks to the NCAA tournament twice. For his efforts, Evans was inducted into the Wisconsin-Whitewater Hall of Fame in 2010.

Evans spent the 1991 season at the University of Richmond before transferring to Wisconsin-Whitewater. That year, the Spiders won the Colonial Athletic Association Championship and went to the NCAA Tournament where, as a No. 15 seed, defeated No. 2 seed Syracuse in the First Round.

Evans had a professional career overseas, playing in Norway and Taiwan. In 1998, he won his team's Most Valuable Player award in Norway and was named to the All-Star Foreign Tour Team in 1996.

Evans, a 2012 member of the Beloit Historical Sports Hall of Fame, is married to the former Tina Perkins and has three children: Alexis, Matthew and Shylyn.
