Police Chief Spivey: Man Came At Officer With Machate In Police Shooting Case

A man was killed Friday by an Ozark police officer was answering a domestic dispute call a few miles from downtown. The man, according to Police Chief Tony Spivey, came out a home on Brandi Lane armed with a machete.
"The officer gave commands for him to place the weapon down," sad Spivey when he spoke to WDHN at the scene. "He refused the commands and began a charging motion towards the officer at which time the officer discharged his firearm."
The man shot, whose name has not been released, was taken to the Dale Medical Center where he died a short time later. It's not immediately clear how many times he was shot.
The Alabama Bureau of Investigation was summoned to the scene to launch an investigation into the shooting. It is routine for the state agency to such cases since it would appear inappropriate for an agency to investigate itself. The name of the officer has not been released.
