Fredrick Ross (Fred) McGriff, a resident of Columbia, died Wednesday, June 13, 2012 at his residence. He was 74.
Memorial services with full military honors will be held at 10:00 A.M. Monday, June 18, 2012 in the Holman-Headland Mortuary Chapel with Reverend Randall Johnson officiating.The family will receive friends following the services.Flowers will be accepted or memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society, Attn: Memorial Chairperson, P O Box 2123, Dothan, AL36305.
Mr. McGriff, son of the late Wallace Andrew McGriff and Willena Steele McGriff, was born in Panama City, Florida having moved to Columbia at an early age. He lived in various locations in the U.S. and overseas while serving in the U.S. Air Force and returned to Columbia in 1994. Mr. McGriff served two tours in Vietnam during his military career and retired after twenty-three years of service. He was a member of the Wakarusa Masonic Lodge No. 402, Wakarusa, Kansas and was of the Baptist faith. He was preceded in death by his wife, Sara Pat Dunaway McGriff and his sister, Jean Blackwell.
Surviving relatives include one daughter, Angela Pate and husband, Winford, Lufkin, TX; two sons, Mark McGriff and wife, Joann Jordan, Sunnyside, NY; Richard McGriff and wife, Tina, Crosby, TX; two brothers-in-law, Buddy Dunaway, Montgomery, AL; Guy Dunaway and wife, Betty, Blakely, GA; four grandchildren, Shane Pate, Alicia Baker and husband, Nick, Patrick McGriff and Ashlain McGriff; two great-grandchildren, Kaden Baker and Kaley Baker.
