Former Troy Standout T.J. Rivera Named South Atlantic League All-Star

TROY, Ala. - Former Troy University standout T.J. Rivera has been selected to represent the Southern Division in the 53rd annual South Atlantic League All-Star Game on June 19 in Charleston, S.C.

Rivera, who finished his career as a Trojan in 2011, leads the Savannah Sand Gnats with a .323 batting average over 58 games. The infielder ranks among the top 20 in the Sally League in batting average, home runs, on-base percentage (.394), slugging percentage (.478) and OPS (.872). Rivera has 13 doubles, a triple, seven home runs and 30 RBIs for the Class-A affiliate of the New York Mets.

The Bronx, N.Y., native hit .303 with 18 doubles, a triple, a home run and 37 RBIs as a senior at Troy and was named to the All-Sun Belt Conference Second Team.

Rivera was named the Sally League Player of the Week on May 2 after batting .429 with three home runs, 11 RBIs and three stolen bases over six games from April 23-29. He was signed as a non-drafted free agent in 2011. Rivera split time in 2011 between Kingsport (R) and Brooklyn (Short-Season A), with a combined batting average of .301 in 42 games played.
