Dothan Police Respond To Shots Fire Call

By: Stephen Crews
Updated: June 11, 2012

On June 8, 2012 the Dothan Police Department responded to shots fired in the 600 block of South Edgewood.

While responding, police were updated of a possible injury to one person. Investigators responded to the scene where they made contact with the victim who sustained a minor injury when a bullet traveled through the vehicle he was in and grazed his body.

The initial investigation into the incident revealed very little details regarding the incident or suspect involved. Police worked through the day seeking out witnesses to slowly put together what lead to shots being fired.

Police say their investigation revealed seven male subjects became involved in an altercation. One of the involved subjects went to a nearby residence and notified Brian Smith of the situation.

Smith exited the residence armed with a rifle at which time three of the men involved in the altercation got into their vehicle to leave. Smith fired rounds at the departing vehicle striking the trunk and bumper four times.

Smith has now been taken into custody and charged with discharging a firearm into an occupied vehicle.

Brian Smith, black male, 22 years of age, of South Edgewood Drive was arrested and charged with Discharging a Firearm into an Occupied Vehicle with bond being established later today.
