The Birmingham Civil Rights Institute was recently named by Yahoo! Travel as one of the top ten places to every child should visit in the United States.

It was the only southern attraction on the top ten list.

The attractions were required to be fun, educational and magical through the eyes of a child.  It also needed to inspire adults and have a universal appeal.

We found a visitor from Maryland who agrees.  "I think it's a wonderful place for kids to come and learn about history, in general," said Janessa Jones. She added, "It doesn't matter what age you are, it's really amazing to see everything come together, and I think it's important for children to know that everything wasn't always as it is now."

The BCRI was one of 562 attractions nominated.  The final ten were selected from votes by the public, combined with factors such as geographic and thematic diversity.
