Judge Slashes Bond For Woman Accused In Robbery

A Houston County judge has reduced bond for a woman accused of robbery in the holdup of a convenience store.  Janay Thomas, 24, was one of two people accused in the robbery of a Shell Food Mart located at the intersection of U.S. 84 and Brannon Stand Road.  Also charged in the case is Travis McKnight of Ozark.

District Judge Benjamin Lewis reduced Thomas' bond from $250,000 to $60,000.  She is accused of driving the getaway car in the holdup which occurred May 10.

Police believe McKnight entered the store around 12:15 a.m., pulled a gun and demanded money.  They say he fled with a cash drawer--presumably to a waiting car operated by Thomas.

Officers later arrested McKnight as the result of a traffic stop at another Dothan convenience store.  Thomas, the driver, was initially released but later taken into custody after evidence suggested she was involved in the robbery.  Investigators say they recovered a handgun believed used in the heist.

Thomas' bond was reduced after a request by defense attorney Cada Carter.  Meanwhile, McKnight remains jailed under a $250,000 bond.
