TROY, Ala. - The Troy softball team and head coach Melanie Davis announced the signing of Douglasville, Ga., native Bria Epps on Wednesday.

Epps was a four-year letterwinner at Chapel Hill High School and a member of the Georgia Dugout Club All-State team. The left-handed slapper hit .541 as a senior with a Georgia state record 72 stolen bases. She was also named All-Region, All-County and the Douglas County Sentinel Player of the Year from her outfield position.

"We are delighted that Bria has decided to join our program," Davis said. "Bria is a talented student-athlete who has one of the most valuable commodities out there - God given speed. That, combined with her work ethic, makes her an extremely valuable addition to our squad."

Epps was also a four-year letterwinner for the Chapel Hill track team where she holds the school record in the 100-meters, 200-meters and was a member of record setting 4x100-meter and 4x400-meter relay teams.

She was awarded the 2011 Ryan Anderson and Tyler Smith Memorial Award which is presented annually to the most outstanding Varsity Female Track and Field athlete at the Douglas County Championships.

She also earned the Chapel Hill High School Female Athlete of the Year award and was also the recipient of an Annual Bobbie Bailey Award for Athletic Excellence.

"I chose Troy not only because of the successful program that Coach Davis and her staff have established, but also because of educational opportunities available," Epps said. "I am very excited to attend Troy. I went on a visit and everyone was so nice. I felt at home there."

In addition to all of her awards and records during the 2011-12 school year, Epps was also named to the All-County and All-Region softball teams as a junior in 2010-11.

"She is a tremendous lead-off hitter and table setter," said Epps high school head coach, Mick Harper. "She has every tool and did everything for us. You know when she gets on base she could turn a single into a double or triple."

The daughter of Avetta and Orlando Epps, Bria plans to major in health services at Troy. Epps joins five other incoming freshman who signed with the Trojans in November. More information on those signees can be found HERE.
