Former Executive Director Of Boy's And Girl's Club Denies Theft Charges

The former executive director of the Boy's and Girl's Club of the Wiregrass has pleaded not guilty to charges he embezzled thousands of dollars from the club.

Court records indicate Jack (Jake) Lee Colson Jr., through his attorney, denied the allegations and a waived arrangement on a theft charge.

Colson, 33, was arrested November 15, 2011 after an audit turned up money missing from the non-profit agency.  A person familiar with the investigation said the total could reach more than $50,000.

Colson was fired by the Club's board when the money was discovered missing, according to President B. Scott Applefield. "We take any such mismanagement of resources very seriously," said Applefield in a prepared statement issued the same day as Colson's arrest.

Colson is scheduled to be tried in June.
