Parents gather Tuesday night to learn more from Dothan City Schools Superintendent Tim Wilder about the new magnet school application process. "(Parents ask) are we going to kick anybody out? No. Everybody that is in there now is grandfathered in. The biggest class that will be affected will be the upcoming kindergarten class," said Wilder.
The incoming kindergarten class will be tested by an oral exam. The scores will then be used to determine who will make up the class of 2025.
"This test lets us know that students are ready. They know their letters, their colors and numbers, they are ready to go. Hopefully this will result in fewer being sent back to their base school," said Wilder.
The school system is expecting around 400 students to apply for their magnet schools.
Applications are due by April 30th.
