The Daleville High School Band is heading to Canada to display their musical talents. The band is invited to perform at the Ontario Science Center as a part of a performing series the museum has throughout the year.
Band students like Sarah Elia and Lucas Waldrope are excited about the opportunity.
"It's such a great opportunity. It makes my heart beat fast every time I think about it. You're getting to play for people that aren't in this country," said Elia.
Trumpet player Lucas Waldrope said, "It means a lot to me. I'm very honored and I've worked very hard for this so this is like an award. "
Band Director Mark Nichols said the band had several fundraisers to come up with the $40,000 to pay for their trip.
"They had to come up with a lot of money because they had to pay for everything themselves. The students have to fund transportation, their food, and any tourist activity," said Nichols.
The band will also perform for a local school in Canada and hear the sounds of the Toronto Symphony. The band will return from their trip on Sunday.
