Funeral services will be held at 2:00 P.M. Wednesday, April 4, 2012, in the Chalkhead Baptist Church with Reverend Tommy West officiating and eulogies to be given by good friends, former Dale County Sheriff, Bryant Mixon and Dr. Paola Reese Bass. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Holman-Headland Mortuary is in charge of funeral arrangements. The family will receive friends from 12:00 Noon until 2:00 P.M. Wednesday in the sanctuary of the Chalkhead Baptist Church.
Flowers will be accepted or memorial contributions may be made to the Chalkhead Baptist Church Nicaraguan Mission Fund, 495 County Road 35, Ozark, AL. 36360.
Mr. Maund was born and reared in the Chalkhead community of Dale County, son of the late Samuel Jasper Maund, Sr. and Mallie Vera Woodham Maund. He served his country in the U. S. Air Force during the Korean War. Mr. Maund moved to Ozark in 1962. He was retired as the owner and operator of Maund's Refrigeration Company in Ozark. Mr. Maund was a member of the Chalkhead Baptist Church. He was preceded in death by four sisters, Irene Riley, Ruth Bowman, Betty Enfinger and Helen Deese and two brothers, Elmer Maund and Bob Maund. Sam loved people, especially children and loved life itself.
Surviving relatives include his wife, Frances Weed Maund, Ozark; three sons, Samuel J. (Sammy) Maund, III, Ozark; Marion Maund and wife, Kathy, Collierville, TN; and Martin Maund and wife, Elaine, Ariton; eight grandchildren, Cole Maund, Adam Maund, Madeleine Maund, John Martin Maund, Maggie Maund, Jennifer Himburg, Blake Himburg and Abby Himburg; two sisters, Louise Hughes and husband, Stan, Ozark; and Jeanette Coaker, Ozark; several nieces and nephews; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law from the Weed family.
