Voter turnout is normally low during a primary election, but because 2012 is only determining the republican presidential candidate even more people stayed home.

The few that came out in Houston County said  Tuesday's primary election is pivotal in determining the next president of the United States.

Dothan voter William Dykes said,  "This is an important threshold for our country to see if we're going to have a country like we've always had or are we going down the path of socialism."

Voter Denise Paknik said, "The things that I'm interested in seeing changes in are in the areas of the economy as well as energy. I just think it's time for change. "

Alabama's Secretary of State Beth Chapman is forecasting that nearly 30 percent of the voters would participate in today's election, which is nearly 15 percent less than the voter turnout for the 2008 presidential primaries.
