Geneva Hires Donnie Chesteen To Lead Panther Football Program

Updated: January 23, 2012
The Geneva High School Board of Education officially hired Donnie Chesteen to lead their football program tonight during a regular scheduled BOE meeting.

Chesteen resigned as the head football coach at Samson High School on Friday after leading the program for the past two seasons.

During his first year at the helm, Chesteen led the Tigers to a winning record. The Tigers only managed to win three games just one time during the previous six seasons.

Expectations were high coming into the 2011 season and the Tigers struggled at times and finished the year with a 4-6 record.

Chesteen takes over a Panther program that has struggled as of late under the leadership of Jeff Williams. The Panthers have won just eight games during the previous three seasons.

Chesteen is no stranger to the program. He served as an assistant just three seasons ago before taking over the Tiger program.

He was also the Panther head coach for most of the 1980's. During that time he led Geneva through one of it's most successful runs before getting out of coaching and teaching.

In addition to his duties as a coach and educator, Chesteen is also the State Representative for District 87 which makes up Geneva County and a portion of Houston County.
