Hanging Things

Hanging objects in our yards such as bird feeders, candles, and hanging baskets is a great way to add character to the great outdoors. However, there are some things to keep in mind.
Tips for hanging a bird feeder:
Bird feeders are a must for anyone who wants to attract birds to the yard. But feeders also have a tendency to attract squirrels who often steal the food before the birds can get to it, and cats who eat the unsuspecting birds. To keep these unwelcome visitors from dropping by, use the following tips.
Hang the bird feeder from a pulley connected to a cable that runs between two trees in your yard. This takes care of the squirrel problem by making the feeder hard to get to, and it also keeps the feeder high enough off the ground so that cats can’t reach the birds as the feed. With a rope running through the pulley and attached to the feeder, you can easily lower the feeder for refilling.
Purchase a “squirrel guard” for your feeder. This is a device that sets above the feeder. Not only does it keep the rain off the birdseed, but since it rests on top of a sphere, any weight that falls on it (like a squirrel) causes it to tip over, sending the squirrel back to the ground.
Tips for hanging plants:
For hanging baskets, use a hook with a built in swivel. This will allow you to rotate the plant periodically so that it gets sun evenly.
HOW TO HANG A CLAY POT:
TOOLS
* Coping saw
* Sandpaper
MATERIALS
* 1- 2x2
* Diagram
* 2 wood screws
1. Using the diagram, cut the pattern out of the 2x2.
2. Sand the wood to a nice, smooth finish.
3. Attach the hanger to any vertical, wooden surface using the wood screws.
4. Slide the clay pot up and into the hanger.
