A deadly shooting in Autauga County is the county's first murder in over a year.

The shooting happened near the quiet Posey Crosswoods community.

Autauga County authorities are investigating their first murder in over a year.

A shooting at the very quiet rural intersection of County Road 57 and Viking Lane.

Sheriff Herbie Johnson, Autauga County Sheriff's Office, says, "We had a call approximately 1:00 this morning that there had been a shooting, when we arrived on the scene there was a subject that had been shot and was lying there on the ground."

Officials found thirty year old Michael Headley lying on the pavement of County Road 57 dead of a single gun shot wound.

Authorities arrested 27 year old Erik Scoggins of Deatsville and charged him with murder. Officials say Scoggins shot Headley in the chest with a .40 caliber pistol during an altercation.

"We feel like we have the right person we just have to get all of our evidence together and get it compiled and get it to the grand jury and I feel like we have the right man, there's no reason to be concerned that anybody else is out there," said Johnson.

Scoggins is in the Autauga County Metro Jail. Bond has been set at half a million dollars.

Evidence will be presented to a grand jury as early as Monday.
