21-year-old Daniel Owens was arrested on Wednesday after the Lee County Sheriff's Office received a call from a citizen who reported that they had just heard an explosion and could see smoke coming from a vacant residence.
Smith Station Fire Units responded to the scene and discovered a vacant residence on fire. The fire was eventually put out but not before the home was a complete lost.
The Lee County Sheriff's Office and the State Fire Marshall's Office conducted a joint investigation in which they were able to determine that the fire was a result of an intentionally set fire.
Owens was developed as a suspect after witnesses who were in the area reported seeing a male suspect fleeing from the scene of the fire prior to the explosion.
Owens has been released from the Lee County Detention Facility after posting a $10,000 bond.
The case is still under investigation and if you have any information about this case or any other case please call Lee County Crime Stoppers at 1-888-522-7847.
