Former
Jefferson County Commissioner and Birmingham Mayor Larry Langford has
taken his bribery conviction before the 11th Circuit Court of Appeals.
His attorney argued before a three judge panel that prosecutors ignored federal evidence rules and improperly brought up Langford's links to gambling by presenting his tax returns as evidence and questioning a witness about gambling magnate Milton McGregor.
Prosecutors told the court that they did nothing wrong when they did not redact more than $100,000 in gambling receipts from Langford's tax returns. Langford's attorney,Mike Ramussen, claimed the move was prejudicial to his client.
There is word when the court will make a ruling.
So far Langford has served 11 months of his 15 year sentence.
