Geneva Girls Basketball Team Falls In 3A Regional Final

The Geneva Girls Basketball Team will have to wait at least another year to reach the Final Four In Birmingham. Montgomery Academy dismantled the Lady Panthers 56-32 in Friday's Class 3A South Regional Final in Mobile.

Meredith Lee scored 18 points and Miah Brooks added 14, as the Eagles advanced to the Class 3A Final Four next week. Lee was named 3A Regional MVP.

The Eagles defense could've collectively won the award, forcing 33 Geneva turnovers on Friday. Montgomery Academy (30-1) broke open the game with a 14-0 run in the third quarter.

Shanice Townsed led Geneva (28-5) with 12 points. No other Geneva player scored more than five points in the game.


Class 4A South Regional Semifinal

Andalusia - 59  Escambia County - 57

Justin Dooley hit two free throws with 18.2 seconds left, lifting Andalusia past Escambia County 59-57 in a Class 4A South Regional Semifinal game in Mobile. With the win, the Bulldogs advance to face Hillcrest-Evergreen in the 4A South Regional Final on Saturday.

Dooley's free throws helped the Bulldogs avoid a late-game collapse. Escambia County trailed by 12 points with less than three minutes to play, but cut Andalusia's lead to one point in the final minute.

That's when Dooley saved the day, scoring his 10th and 11th points of the game to send Andalusia to the 4A South Regional Final. Corinthian Sims led Andalusia with 12 points, while Derrick King, Quayshaun Denson and Victor Benson added 10 points each.

Cecric Pierce led Escambia County with 16 points. Escambia County ends the year with a 23-8 record.


Hillcrest-Evergreen - 74  Headland - 59

Chris Joyner scored 18 points, as Hillcrest-Evergreen rolled past Headland 74-59 in a 4A South Regional Semifinal game in Mobile. With the win, Hillcrest-Evergreen advanced to face Andalusia in the 4A South Regional Final on Saturday.

Hillcrest-Evergreen led by 20 points at halftime, but the Rams cut that lead to six points with less than four minutes to play. The Jaguars scored the game's next 10 points to take control for good.

Jahwon Williams led the Rams with 28 points.


4A Girls South Regional Semifinal

UMS-Wright - 50  Andalusia - 35

UMS-Wright outscored Andalusia 50-35 in the fourth quarter, winning 50-35 in a 4A South Regional Semifinal game in Mobile. With the win, UMS-Wright advanced to face Brewbaker Tech in the 4A South Regional Final on Saturday.

Chelan Blow led UMS-Wright with 14 points. Alexis Horton scored a game-high 21 points for Andalusia in the losing effort.
