Dothan Funeral Home Owner Wrecks, Dies

An owner of Kent-Thornton Funeral Home in Dothan was killed Wednesday afternoon in Albertville, Alabama.

Ricky Lamar Kent, 58, died when the funeral vehicle he was driving struck a parked semi on Alabama Highway 79 at U.S. 431.  Kent was transporting a body at the time.

Marshall County Coroner Marlon Killian said it appears Kent suffered some type of medical emergency.  An employee riding with Kent tried unsuccessfully to stop the vehicle. Killion said it appears Kent died from medical reasons and not from the crash. 

The woman traveling with Kent and an occupant of the truck were both hospitalized according to Killion.

According to the Kent-Thornton website, Ricky Kent was a partner with his brother, Charles, in the business.  He was also involved in the operation of several other funeral homes.
