Thousands of spring breakers will soon be hitting Panama City Beach, and so will plenty of jobs.
Restaurants and bars are already looking to fill those positions. Places like Schooners Bar and Grill will be hiring about 30 people this season. Between four other restaurants, including Breakers, 60 people will get jobs.
Other places like Coyote Ugly Saloon are accepting applications too. The bar will hire more people this year than last year in order to handle the larger number of spring breakers expected.
“This year I’m looking to add six more bar tenders, and eight to ten more security guards,” Saloon Manager Travis Schofer said.
These big businesses are already opening their doors for the season. Even though the spring break job market is looking up however, there will be challenges. Seafood costs are expected to rise nearly 20 percent this year. Some restaurants might have to cut back.
“We will have to watch portions,” Restaurant owner Jack Bishop said. “We will have to buy smarter, and make sure we do a better job with prepping and pricing.”
With a new noise ordinance taking effect, even bars and nightclubs will have to get creative.
“I think this year, we’re up against a lot. But that’s my job as a manager is to make things happen,” Schofer said.
