Marianna Man Held On Traffic Charges After Pursuit

On 01-18-2011, officers from the Marianna Police Department responded to area of Milton Avenue in reference to a reckless driving complaint.

Upon arrival the complainant led officers to the apartments on Hannah Street where she followed the reckless vehicle to.  Officers attempted to flag down the driver to stop, who refused to acknowledge the officer as he drove past.  Officers then attempted to make a traffic stop on the vehicle in reference to the complaint at the intersection of Hannah Street and Orange Street.  The vehicle failed to stop and accelerated as officers followed with emergency lights and siren activated in a marked patrol unit.

The suspect vehicle traveled south on Orange Street, turned east on Graham Street, then north on to Stephens Lane.  The driver of the vehicle jumped out of the vehicle as is traveled down Stephens Lane, leaving the vehicle to continue to travel north and come to a stop in some bushes after it left the roadway and jumped over the curb.  Officers gave chase to the driver for several hundred yards where the subject was apprehended and taken into custody.

The driver was identified as James Leon Williams (23 years of age) of 1938 Wagon Lane, Marianna. A computer check was conducted and it was determined Mr. Williams did not have a license in any state.  Mr. Williams was arrested and transported to the Jackson County Correctional Facility without further incident.

Mr. Williams was charged with 1. Fleeing and attempting to elude a Law Enforcement Officer, 2. Reckless Driving 3.Driving with no valid license.
