Troy University Plans Workshop Aimed To Help Local Job Seekers

By: Stephen Crews
Updated: January 17, 2011
Troy University will host an employment skills workshop on Tuesday, Jan. 25, at the Montgomery Campus designed to help local job seekers improve their job search techniques.

The event will be held from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. inside the Gold Room in Whitley Hall.

The workshop will provide the out-of-work with valuable insight on how to improve their chances of finding a job, said Carla Copeland, vice president of programs for the Montgomery Society for Human Resources Management.

“This is a wonderful opportunity for individuals to sharpen their employability skills,” Copeland said.

During the workshop, interactive sessions will help attendees learn more about resume writing, interview etiquette, polishing presentation skills and using technology and social networking on the job. The workshop will also cover how to cope with the discouragement and loss of identity that often accompanies being out of work.

Participants can also explore other possible careers with the help of Troy University Career Services’ career interest inventory.

The workshop is sponsored by Troy University, Max Credit Union and the Montgomery Society for Human Resources Management.

Registration is $10 and includes lunch. Seating is limited to the first 140 participants. Participants may register online at http://shrmmontgomery.shrm.org. Registration forms are also available on the Montgomery Campus at the receptionist desk in Whitley Hall.
