Sea turtles are being rescued from the Gulf of Mexico and taken to Gulf World Marine Park in Panama City Beach. Marine park officials animal trainers confirmed more than 100 turtles were rescued Friday.
The turtles are being retrieved from the shallow waters of the St. Joe Bay because of the freezing temperatures. Cold-blooded animals are hit the hardest during the winter months, because they get their body warmth from their surroundings.
While the turtles are being rehabilitated at Gulf World, they will be tagged. Some will have blood tests done. The reptiles will later released back into the wild when weather conditions permit.
Trainers say over 18-hundred turtles had to be pulled from the cold waters this time last year.
