Trial Of Former Birmingham Police Officers Delayed Due To Weather

Updated: January 10, 2011

The trial of two former Birmingham police officers accused of violating a suspect's civil rights by beating him while he was unconscious will be delayed until at least Tuesday.

The winter storm caused the U.S. Attorney's Office in Northern Alabama as well as the U.S. District Court are closed Monday.

Barrett Dewitt and David Doran are charged with using unreasonable force while arresting Anthony Warren.  Warren had led police on a chase from Birmingham into Hoover, and hit a Hoover police officer shortly before crashing on the ramp between US 31 and Interstate 459.

The US Attorney's Office says it is not sure when the courthouse will reopen.
