Relay For Life of Houston County, Team Captain Meeting

Relay For Life is a community-based, volunteer-driven event where community members unite to celebrate cancer survivors, remember lost loved ones and fight back against a disease that affects so many.

Funds raised from Relay For Life support the American Cancer Society’s mission to create a world with more birthdays by helping people stay well, by helping them get well, by finding cures and fighting back.

Houston County Pageant
The Altrusa Club of Dothan will be sponsoring the 29th annual Houston County pageants on Saturday, February 19, 2011 at the Dothan Civic Center. 

Divisions are Future Little Miss (ages 4-6), Little Miss (1st grade), Young Junior Miss (ages 7-9), Junior Miss (ages 10-12), Teen Miss (ages 13-16), and Miss (ages 17-21). Future Little Miss, Little Miss and Young Junior Miss will be at 2:00p.m.  

Junior Miss, Teen Miss and Miss will be at 6:00 p.m.  Miss and Little Miss Houston County will participate in the National Peanut Festival pageants in October 2011.  All queens will participate in community service projects throughout their reign.

DCCAH Photography Show
The Dale County Council of Arts and Humanities (DCCAH) is issuing a  second call for entries for the upcoming 2011 Photography Show, "MOMENTS IN TIME", sponsored by Charter Communications. The competition is open to all photographers, 18 years of age or older, casual, amateur and professional. Entry fee is $30.00 for non-members and $25.00 for members of the DCCAH. The photography show will open at the Dowling Museum-Ann Rudd Art Center, Ozark, Alabama, February 5, 2011, and will close March 5, 2011. An opening reception will be held on February 5, 2011, 6-8 pm.

There are three categories: "Story Series" category- show a story in a series of 2-3 photographs, the series is considered one entry; General Category- which can consist of landscapes, still life, generic photos; and Digital Manipulation category-these photographs may be manipulated, merged, or altered without limitation. For the Story Series and General categories, photographs should not be altered beyond standard optimization, such as cropping, removal of red eye, removal of dust and scratches, corrections to color, brightness, contrast, etc. Three entries  will be allowed per photographer.

All photographs must have been taken within the past three years, no exceptions. The "Story Series" category photographs can be framed and matted together or can be individually framed and will be considered as one entry. NO photographs should be smaller than 5" x 7" (image size), nor larger than 36 inches in any dimension. "Story Series" entries should depict or portray a happening, a progression of event(s), emotion, or other 'story line'. Entries in ALL categories will be judged on visual impact, composition, technique and creativity.

All photographs must be framed with wire hanger, ready to hang, no saw tooth hangers allowed, NO exceptions . Entries will be accepted on Saturday, January 29, 2011, 1-4 pm. Entry forms , with entry fee amount, labeling and other vital information , may be picked up at the Dowling Museum-Ann Rudd Art Center, located on the Square in downtown Ozark, or the entry form may be downloaded from the DCCAH website: www.ruddartcenter.org<http://www.ruddartcenter.org>.
