Updated: December 31, 2010
A freak accident too the life of a Tuscaloosa man on this last day of 2010.   A fallen log crushed the 22-year old victim at the KyKenKee lumber yard in Vance.

Authorities were called to the plant on Highway 11 around 9 a.m.  A debarking machine which strips logs of bark before they're cut as wood apparently malfunctioned.

"It appears the log came out of the piece of machinery and then it goes onto a ramp to be fed to another piece of machinery and somehow it came off that and landed on top of him," said Sgt. Kip Hart of Tuscaloosa's Metro Homicide Unit.  He says the worker, who's name hasn't been released  was not operating that machinery but just happen to be passing by it at the time the log fell.

Investigators say foul play does not appear to be involved.   O.S.H.A...the federal Occupational Safety and Health Administration is looking into the accident as a precaution.
