MLK Blood Drive Planned
An MLK Blood Drive has been scheduled as part of the Ozark-Dale County observance of the Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Holiday. The blood drive is scheduled for Friday, January 14, 2011, 2pm to 6pm. EVERYONE is encouraged to participate by making a blood donation.

There is an appeal by the Red Cross to the African-American community to increase donations from African-Americans to help those with rare blood types and illnesses unique to the African-American community.

It is our great hope to enlist your help in getting the word out about this blood drive.

Spotlight On Business Booths Still Available For Chamber Event
Preparations have begun for the Chamber's annual Spotlight on Business Trade Show held every year in February.  This year we will have a "luau" theme so get out your tiki torches, palm trees, and hula skirts.  The event will be held Tuesday, February 1, 2011, at the Dothan Civic Center from 3-7 p.m.

This is your opportunity to reach over 1,500 potential customers.  This trade show allows members to showcase their products and services to fellow Chamber members, as well as the general public.

The cost per booth is $350, add $25 for electricity.

MLK Children's Program
The MLK Children's Program kicks off events for the 2011 King Holiday Celebration. The program is this Sunday, January 9th, beginning at 4pm in the Flowers Center for the Performing Arts. Come out to see our children and youth celebrate the legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. in a variety of presentations that are sure to warm your heart.

Miracle League Baseball Registration
Dothan Miracle League will be taking registration for the Miracle League Baseball program to be played at Miracle Field located at Westgate Park.  This baseball league is designed for the mentally and physically challenged individual and is open to anyone ages 5 years and up no matter where you live.

We are also accepting registration for volunteer coaches and volunteer buddies to help those individuals who will need some assistance. 

Registration will be held January 10, 2011 thru January 24, 2011 at Wiregrass Recreation Center.  Registration times are Monday-Friday 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.  A copy of the participant’s birth certificate and proof of insurance is required at the time of registration.

The fee for registration is $25.00 for Spring League.  No individual will be denied participation in the Miracle League program for inability to pay.  There is no fee for volunteer coaches and buddies.  For more information please contact Leisure Services at 615-4743 or 615-4740.  Or go to www.dothanleisureservices.org to print an application.

SARCOA’s January Learn on Lunch
SARCOA will host its monthly Learn on Lunch seminar Thursday, Jan. 6 from 12 - 1 p.m. This month’s topic is Safety in Everyday Living, with a presentation by Dothan police officer Thomas Davis. Discussion will include senior drivers, neighborhood watch and how to recognize scams.

The seminar will be held at the Wiregrass Senior Resource Center at 1075 S. Brannon Stand Road, Dothan. CEUs are available for $4 for social workers and nursing home and assisted living administrators. Seminar is free to the public.

Taley Trio In Concert At First Free Will Baptist Church
Everyone is invited to attend First Free Will Baptist Church, 1461 Timbers Drive, Dothan, AL 36301 on Sunday, January 9, 2011 at 10:30 a.m. to hear the Talley Trio.

Roger, Debra and Lauren Talley are a musical family devoted to God and to each other. Their priority in concert is to lift up Christ in their music while presenting the gospel to the listener through song and testimony. Their professional and pursuit of excellence is only superseded by their ability to connect with an audience through the message of love, grace and forgiveness.

Rib Ticklin' Contest

Think you're funny? Know someone who ought to be a comedian? Come on out to one of three remaining qualifying rounds (January 13 , February 10 and March 10) for the Rib Ticklin' Comedy Contest and try your hand as a stand up comic.

Audience members vote for their favorite comedian and the winner from each of the qualifying rounds advances to the main stage of at the Tri-State BBQ Festival on April 9th where the best comedian will receive $500. Advance registration is preferred and limited to a maximum of ten contestants each month. It takes place at RJ Saxons in Downtown Dothan from 7-9pm, and there's no cover charge to come and watch the comedians perform.
