Parole Check Leads To $250,000 In Drugs

A stash of drugs was taken from the home of Spencer Hardison on December 21st. Hardison was arrested after a parole officer was making a routine check and found a gun in his possession. The officer then contacted the Muscogee county sheriff's office. A team of deputies searched the suspect's home located on Windham Court in Columbus. That's where they found more than fifty pounds of marijuana and 8 ounces of cocaine. Sheriff Darr says the discovery was the result of an officer being alert.

"If you are just really kind of paying attention to what's going on inside the resident or the people you are dealing with, you know if you pay attention and you are being observant you are going to kind of notice some of these things like that," Sheriff Darr said.

Hardison, who was on parole for a different crime, is being charged with trafficking cocaine, marijuana, and two counts of felony for the possession of a fire arm by a convicted felon. People that live in the Windham Court area would not go on camera with us today out of fear of retaliation, but did say that they never expected this to happen right in their own back yards. Sheriff Darr tells us that they will continue their efforts to keep people in Columbus safe.

"We are always trying to do what is best for the citizens of our community, this shows that being very aggressive with the drug problem, and this is a result of it," Sheriff Darr said.
