The new year will bring new jobs and a multi-million dollar distribution center to Lakeshore Parkway.

Tuesday, the Jefferson County Commission and Bessemer City Council approved ten year tax abatements and a sales tax exemption during the construction of a Dollar General distribution center.

One hundred people will be hired to drive truck, and another few hundred will be need to work inside the 60 million dollar facility on Lakeshore Parkway near the intersection of Highway 150.

"It's bringing much needed jobs to our community, construction jobs initially but ultimately 650 jobs to the facility," said Patrick Murphy of the Birmingham Business Alliance.

Construction is expected to begin soon on the one million square foot facility.

The anticipated completion date is December 2011.

More retail stores are also expected to open in the area.
