Christmas came early for Phenix City as it becomes part of the auto industry in Alabama.

When you think of auto manufacturing plants in the area, most people may think of the city of West Point and the city of Auburn.

But now, Phenix City can be added to the list.

At Tuesday's city council meeting, the board announced ILJIN Alabama Corporation will make Phenix City it's new home.

"We are so excited to have ILJIN come into our community and let us be part of their future here in Alabama," said Mayor Sonny Coulter.

ILJIN is a global supplier that makes auto parts for vehicles like Hyundai and Kia.

ILJIN entered the automotive industry in 1994 and is considered an expert company in the wheel bearing market.

"The company is investing in over $31 million in and with that brings revenue. Revenue translates into bigger and better ways we can serve our citizens," said Coulter.

ILJIN will create 108 jobs in its first year.

The company will start hiring in March and hopes to have production up and running in July 2011.
