Cameras Now Monitoring Birmingham Park Christmas Tree

By: Stephen Crews
Updated: December 18, 2010

The company Ion247 has installed two cameras to keep watch over the Birmingham Christmas tree at Linn Park.  Copper thieves doused it with gasoline and set it on fire earlier this week.

Ion247 already has a contract with the Magic City to monitor about 40 cameras around the city.  The company added these two free of charge.

A number of homeless people frequent Linn Park. Andrew Jenkins told ABC33/40, they were appalled at what happened, and they worried city officials would blame them.  Jenkins says they are on the lookout for the thieves, too.
