Houston-Love Memorial Library Now Largest Wifi Provider

By: Stephen Crews
Updated: December 16, 2010

Houston-Love Memorial Library is now the largest public provider of FREE Wi-Fi in Houston County! Two private donors from the community have funded a major technology upgrade for all Houston-Love Memorial Library locations. Most importantly all are now Wi-Fi accessible using an upgraded fiber optic high speed internet line.

In addition, free laptops will be available for use in all library locations beginning December 21, 2010 to provide more access points to the Internet in every service outlet.

Downtown Dothan has Wi-Fi access throughout the entire building, including the meeting rooms, children's room and the side parking area allowing for 24/7 access for customers, visitors and professionals working in the Downtown Area.

Dothan has 6 laptops in the main library area, and 2 laptops for the Children's room for use during library hours.   The Ashford and Columbia branch locations are also Wi-Fi accessible 24/7 with two (2) laptops available for use in the library at each location during opening hours.  Photo ID and a valid Library Card in good standing is required to use the laptops.  This is a FREE service.

With a swift response by Knology for installation of  the Internet Fiber Optic pipeline to the main library and the Three P's Company  timely installation of the router equipment, the library was ready to go live with the new service in just 30 days.

The Library leadership heard the community loud and clear with their responses to the survey regarding service priorities. The FREE Wi-Fi and laptop technology upgrade is the first step to improved service.

A special thank you to the two local  families who donated the funds to provide this FREE  service. What a wonderful Christmas gift for Houston County!
