Alabama State Troopers have confirmed the death of an emergency medical technician who was struck by a vehicle while working a wreck on I-65 Wednesday morning.

EMT Laura Elizabeth Pullam, 29, of Lowndesboro was on the scene of a two-vehicle crash around 9:00am on I-65 south at the 161 mile marker near Hope Hull when the vehicle hit her.

Sgt. Steve Jarrett with the Alabama State Troopers said that while Pullam was rendering aid to the victim of a crash, a 2006 Chevrolet pick-up truck left the roadway and struck her.

Pullam was rushed to Baptist South Hospital.

State Troopers have initiated a traffic homicide investigation, which Jarrett said would be forwarded to the Montgomery D.A.'s office for review.

There were many crashes across the northern two-thirds of the state today due to icy conditions caused by freezing rain.
