In the House of Representatives, all 100 present members unanimously named Representative Mike Hubbard of Auburn as the new Speaker of the House.
Although today marked a new beginning for republicans, Hubbard magnified the purpose of the legislature, not the power of the party.
"It's not about who won or lost the election, itís about the need for this body to fulfill two words that are so important that they appear in this seal for the House of Representatives, ĎVox Populií, voice of the people," said Speaker Mike Hubbard.
In a 32-to-0 vote, the senators named Senator Del Marsh of Anniston as President Pro-Tem.
Other leaders from both the House and Senate will be elected when the regular session begins January 11th.
