Updated: December 7, 2010

The Wiregrass United Way continues to make steady progress toward the goal of $2,472,472.47.  Shane Sinquefield, overall campaign chair for this year reports that as of Monday, December 6th the campaign has raised $2,144,321 which represents 87% of the goal.

Sinquefield said that he is encouraged by the generosity of the residents and businesses throughout the Wiregrass region. He added, “The Wiregrass United Way continues to be amazed that people in our five county area are so willing to help those in need even during tough economic times.”

Sinquefield went on to say that he feels it will be the sense of helping our neighbors that will allow the organization to achieve the goal.  “Our dedicated volunteers and staff will not stop working until we reach the goal. Too many people are depending on us,” he added.

Numerous volunteers across the five county area are assisting Sinquefield with the campaign

this year.  These include county campaign chairs, division chairs, loaned executives and

campaign coordinators within area businesses.  The five county campaign chairs are: Coffee

County – Blake Woodall; Dale County – Teresa King; Geneva County – Judson Brooks; Henry

County – Ronnie Marshall and Houston County – State Rep. Paul Lee.

According to Walter Hill, Chief Executive Officer for the Wiregrass United Way there are still employee campaigns going on. Hill explained that some companies recently completed their United Way campaigns and will be reporting their results soon. Other companies are conducting their employee campaigns before Christmas and results should be in right before or right after the holiday.

In addition, Hill added, “It is not too late for businesses to participate. We signed one up this week and will meet with their employees on Friday.” Individuals and businesses can also contribute to the Wiregrass United Way by signing a pledge card to donate in 2011 or sending a check before the end of the year.

The Wiregrass United Way has served the Wiregrass area since 1938, currently funding 38 agencies serving Coffee, Dale, Geneva, Henry and Houston counties.  Funds raised by Wiregrass United Way are utilized locally in the five county area.  A committee of local volunteers determines how the funds are distributed among the member agencies.  For more information call 792-9661.
