"Take Back Our Highways" Deemed Successful Once Again

The Alabama Department of Public Safety concluded its "Take Back Our Highways"traffic safety campaign Sunday at midnight.
State Troopers initiated the campaign at the start of the Thanksgiving holiday travel period to promote highway traffic safety, reduce crashes and save lives.
During this period, Troopers investigated 412 traffic crashes resulting in 185 injuries and six fatalities.
Ofthe six fatalities, none was wearing a seat belt, and five involved alcohol. The fatalities occurred in the following counties: Choctaw (two on 11/26/10),Greene (one on 11/26/10), Lee (one on 11/26/10), Shelby (one on 11/26/10), and Mobile (one on 11/24/10). Troopers made 144 arrests for DUI, issued 3,087citations for speeding and 793 seat belt/child restraint violations.
Troopers also provided assistance to 255 motorists. As of 11/28/2010, State Troopers have investigated 17 fewer traffic fatalities than for the same period in 2009.Trooper-worked fatalities have dropped for four consecutive years, decreasing62 in 2007, 131 in 2008, and 94 in 2009.
