Many Buying Online Rather Than Standing In Long Store Lines

It's the busiest shopping day of the year when many shoppers don't mind waiting for hours in line for that one perfect gift.

But is Black Friday a dying trend?

"I think that people are becoming more savvy online shoppers," Talya Schaeffer said.

Schaeffer runs www.cyberblackfriday.com, which is a Web site that gathers all kinds of Black Friday information regarding deals.

But some people might argue that's exactly what they're already doing with coupons in hand...waiting in lines.

But waiting in line for long hours might soon be a thing of the past. Schaeffer says many online retail sites are offering customers the same discounts and sales without having to worry with long lines and long hours of waiting.

She says last year, Black Friday, was the busiest day for online traffic.

Helping her argument...PayPal released Friday as of 11 a.m. payment volume already increased 25 percent compared to last year.

"I think there's definitely a growing trend of people wanting to stay at home and not have to deal with the crowds," she said.

And Schaeffer says with online popularity growing, consumers need to beware of Internet scams and take precautions like upgrading computer security and anti-virus software.
