Birmingham Ranked Tenth Most Deadly City In The United States

Birmingham is again ranked in the top 10 for most dangerous cities in American, just barely.  The ranking compiled by CQ Press lists 400 cities from safest to most dangerous. 

The group listed Birmingham as #10, an improvement from 2009's #7 ranking, and the 2008 ranking of #8.  The other cities in Alabama that made the list were:

  • #99: Montgomery
  • #106: Mobile
  • #109: Huntsville
  • #183: Tuscaloosa

The organization complies its rankings using six crime categories: murder, rape, robbery, aggravated assault, burglary, and motor vehicle theft.

Those rankings resulted in St. Louis, Missouri being named the most dangerous and Colonie, New York being named the safest.

Here is the entire top ten most dangerous:

  1. St. Louis, Missouri
  2. Camden, New Jersey
  3. Detroit, Michigan
  4. Flint, Michigan
  5. Oakland, California
  6. Richmond, California
  7. Cleveland, Ohio
  8. Compton, California
  9. Gary, Indiana
  10. Birmingham, Alabama
