Governor Bob Riley will continue an Alabama tradition that goes back decades on Tuesday when he grants a pardon to Clyde the Turkey for Thanksgiving.

The pardoning ceremony will take place at the Governor's Mansion at 10:00 a.m. The turkey was donated by Bill Bates of Bates House of Turkey in Greenville.

During their time at the Governor's Mansion, Governor Riley and First Lady Patsy Riley have added a new tradition to the Thanksgiving event that promotes efforts to collect donated blankets for the less fortunate.

Mrs. Riley began the "Blankets with a Blessing" donation drive in 2004.

Students from Dalraida Elementary School in Montgomery, Edgewood Academy in Birmingham, and Riverchase Day School in Hoover will bring donated blankets with them to Tuesday's event.

The blankets will be given to homeless shelters across Alabama to be distributed during the winter.
