Chemical Safety

Important Note: Always read and follow all the label directions. Different chemicals will have different directions for handling and applying.

Mixing
Rubber GlovesWhen mixing liquid chemicals in a sprayer, it is always a good idea to wear rubber gloves, long sleeves and eye protection. Also, add the water to the sprayer first, then add the chemical to the water. Adding the chemical first could result in harmful splashing, or foaming.

Spraying
When spraying the chemical, keep your eye protection on. A sudden gust of wind may blow overspray in the Sprayingwrong direction. As well as eye protection, you should wear rubber boots and long pants. Don't tuck your pants inside your boots. If any of the chemical spills, you don't want it running down inside your boot.

Storing
Keep chemicals stored in a safe location; away from children and pets. Also, keep them away from extreme hot or cold environments. If you do not use all of the chemical you mix, be sure to label the sprayer with the type of chemical and the date it was mixed. Always keep unmixed chemicals in their original containers.

Disposal
Do Not throw unused chemicals in the trash, or pour them down the drain. If you no longer need the chemicals, call your local extension service or Department of Natural Resources and ask them the proper procedure for discarding chemicals. You can also donate them to someone who will use them in the course of their work (landscapers, groundskeepers, etc.).
