The Alabama Supreme Court has overturned a Macon County circuit judge's order that had blocked Gov. Bob Riley's task force on gambling from raiding the Victoryland electronic bingo casino.

The justices in a unanimous ruling overturned the order of Circuit Judge Tom Young that had blocked the task force since March from raiding Victoryland in Macon County.

Governor Riley said, "this decision by the Supreme Court means that the law can be and will be equally enforced in every county in this State, including Macon County."  "No longer can local elected officials protect gambling bosses from enforcement of the law."

Victoryland's attorney Mark White released a statement late Friday afternoon.  It says in part, "Based upon the ruling by the Alabama Supreme Court today, Alabama no longer has three branches of government– it has one– King Riley. The Alabama Supreme Court has now ruled that the Attorney General, the District Attorneys, Sheriffs, and the judges of Alabama do not answer to the people of Alabama who elected them– but to King Riley."

Victoryland is still operating and, according to sources familiar with the situation, will likely do so for several more days.  It is believed the casino may then voluntarily shut down
