It happened at a convenience store at the intersection of West Main and Honeysuckle in Dothan. Police are not saying much at this point but they do tell us 39 year old Ashley Wright struck at least one officer with his car as he tried to flee a drug investigation. That's when an officer opened fire striking the suspect at least once in the chest.
Wright was able to drive a few blocks before crashing into a tree. He was transported to Flowers Hospital were he was pronounced dead.
Valeska visited the scene Thursday night. The DA told WDHN's Scott Packard he viewed the security video and came to the preliminary conclusion the officers were justified in the shooting.
The Alabama Bureau of Investigation is handing the case. That's standard procedure in officer involved shootings.
