The man shot and killed by Dothan Police Thursday night was no stranger to law enforcement. 39 year old Ashley Wright was shot after he struck an officer with his vehicle as he fled a drug operation.

Wright was well known to law enforcement in the area--  we're told he was just recently released from prison after spending years behind bars.

Wright has a rap sheet dating back to 1990. It includes more than twenty charges. Among those-- receiving stolen property, theft of property and robbery.

The investigation into Wright's death is being handled by the Alabama Bureau of Investigation--that's standard procedure in police involved shootings.

Police are expected to release more details Monday.
