A familiar face within the Dothan Police Department is preparing to take on a new role.

Captain Steve Parrish will soon be promoted to Major. Parrish will serve as second in command to Chief Greg Benton. He will have a role in the day to day operation of the police force. The 26 year veteran of DPD says he's excited about the change.

"One of the benefits we have with this police administration is we've got a good team here. We're doing a good job team building. We have a lot of good employees. I'm looking forward to the challenge," Parrish said.

The promotion takes effect this weekend. Parrish says he hopes the new position will help him have a role in improving the quality of life for the citizens of Dothan.
