Mr. Norman Wayne Parrish of Ariton, formerly of the Marley Mill Community, died at the home of his daughter on Friday, Dec. 7, 2007. He was 86.
Funeral services will be held Sunday, Dec. 9, 2007, at 2 p.m. from the chapel of Fuqua-Bankston Funeral Home with Brother Kenneth Earles officiating. Burial will follow with military honors in Woodlawn Memory Gardens with Fuqua-Bankston Funeral Home directing. Visitation will be Saturday, Dec. 8, from 6-8 p.m. at Fuqua-Bankston Funeral Home.
Mr. Parrish was born April 1, 1921, to the late James Barney and Candy Kelly Parrish of Elba. He served in the United States Army, Pacific Theater, during World War II, receiving the Purple Heart in 1945. Upon returning home, he married Virginia Sexton and together they raised six children.
Mr. Parrish retired from Civil Service at Fort Rucker in 1980. He then moved his family to Ariton where he spent many years happily pursuing his love of farming. He was preceded in death by his wife of 57 years in December, 2006, and his oldest son, David, in June, 2006.
Mr. Parrish leaves behind two daughters, Norma, and her husband, Johnny Sasser, and Janice, and her husband, Aubrey Grice, all of Ariton; three sons, Bobby Parrish and his wife, Jeannie, of New Brockton, Billy Parrish and Johnny Parrish, both of Ariton; one sister, Trudy Rachel of Elba; one brother, Edward Parrish of Phenix City; 13 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
Mr. Parrishs grandsons will serve as pallbearers.
Fuqua-Bankston Funeral Home in Ozark, (334) 774-4551, is in charge of arrangements.
