Mrs. Mary Louise Shiver Etheredge of Avon passed away on Friday evening, Nov. 16, 2007, at Extendicare following an extended illness. She was 80.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. today at Dothan First Assembly of God Church with the Revs. Marrell Turvin, Murray Kelley and Marvin Parsley officiating. Burial will follow at Crestlawn Memorial Cemetery in Avon. Flowers will be accepted or memorial contributions may be made to Wiregrass Hospice, P.O. Drawer 2127, Dothan, AL 36302.
Mrs. Etheridge was born in Houston County, daughter to now-deceased William Preston Shiver and Marinda Tolar Shiver. Mrs. Etheredge served in ministry alongside her now-deceased husband, the Rev. Willard Kenneth Etheredge, an ordained minister of the Assemblies of God, for 46 years of their 61-year marriage. Throughout their 46 years of ministry, they served 11 churches: Liberty Assembly, Cedar Springs, Ga.; Grantham Assembly, Cottonwood; Colquitt Assembly, Colquitt, Ga.; Love Hill Assembly, Ashford; Bethlehem Assembly, Gordon; Cowarts Assembly, Cowarts; Fadette Assembly, Fadette; Abbeville Assembly, Abbeville; Madrid Assembly, Madrid; Ashford First Assembly, Ashford; and Providence Assembly, Cedar Springs, Ga. Throughout many of those years, Mrs. Etheredge also worked as a textile examiner for Dothan Manufacturing Company and Wex-Tex of Ashford.
Preceding Mrs. Etheredge in death along with her husband and parents are six brothers, Oakley Shiver, Hoke Shiver, Comer Shiver, Edward Shiver, Myrtle Shiver and Loyd Shiver, and her stepmother, Roselle Mercer Shiver.
Survivors include one daughter and son-in-law, Elaine and Gene Bowen, Montgomery; two sons and daughters-in-law, Kenneth and Brenda Etheridge, Geneva, James and Cheryl Etheredge, Ashford; two sisters, Nellie Bruner, of Dothan, and Nancy Hughes, of Dothan; 12 grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers will be her grandsons and great-grandsons, Darrin Cobb, Scott Crooms, Durwood, Jeremy and Jason Doswell, Andrew Etheredge, Craig Galloway, Steve and Spencer Nall, Tim Purvis, Troy Rhoades and Mark Vaughn.
