Berline Shipes Bryan, a resident of the Henry County Health and Rehabilitation Facility, Abbeville, formerly of Barbour County, died early Monday morning, Nov. 19, 2007, in a Dothan hospital. She was 91. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 21, 2007, in the Holman-Abbeville Mortuary Chapel with the Revs. James E. Ward Jr. and Bill Bryan officiating. Burial will follow in the New Prospect Free Will Baptist Cemetery, between Edwin and Texasville. Flowers will be accepted or memorial contributions may be made to the Bryan Home For Hope Orphanage, c/o The Bridge Church, 1000 Lee Road, 263, Cusseta, AL 36862. Mrs. Bryan was born and reared in Barbour County, near Clopton, daughter of the late Andrew Jackson Shipes and Annie Jane Carroll Shipes. She lived most of her lifetime in Barbour County, near Clopton, but also lived in Clio and Eufaula before moving to the nursing home in Abbeville in 2002. Mrs. Bryan was a member of the Word of Life Family Church in Eufaula and was a former member of Shiloh Word Fellowship, near Clopton. She was formerly employed by WestPoint Stevens in Abbeville. Mrs. Bryan was preceded in death by her husband, William Gettice Bryan, a son, Charles Lester Bryan, a sister, Virgie Shipes, and two brothers, Sandy Shipes and Perry L. Shipes. Surviving relatives include two daughters, Carolyn Thorpe, Phenix City; Virginia Ward and husband, James Earl Ward Sr., Clopton; three sons, Cleveland Bryan and wife, JoAnn Bryan, Dothan; the Rev. Billy Bryan and wife, Carol Bryan, Eufaula; the Rev. Hardy Bryan and wife, Elaine Bryan, Eufaula; 10 grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren, five great-great-grandchildren. Serving as active pallbearers will be the grandsons. Holman-Abbeville Mortuary, (334) 585-5261, is in charge of arrangements.
