Mrs. Ida Mae Taylor Smith of The Terrace at Grove Park, Dothan, passed away Monday, Nov. 12, 2007, following an extended illness. She was 83.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, Nov. 15, 2007, at 2 p.m. at Wesley Memorial United Methodist Church in Opelika with the Revs. Mark Lilly and Bobby Holladay officiating. The family will receive friends at the church on Thursday from 1 until 2 p.m. Burial will follow in Garden Hills Cemetery, Opelika, with Robert Byrd of Sunset Memorial Park, Funeral Home and Crematory directing. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Wesley Memorial United Methodist Church, 2506 Marvyn Parkway, Opelika, AL 36804.
Mrs. Smith was born Sept. 12, 1924, in Chilton County. She lived most of her life in Opelika. In 2001, Mrs. Smith moved to Dothan to be close to family. She served during WWII in the Navy. She was employed by Montgomery Fair/Gayfers for over 20 years. Mrs. Smith was a member of Wesley Memorial United Methodist Church. She was preceded in death by her parents, Clarence and Mae Belle Taylor, her husband, Zack Smith, and brothers, Charles Taylor, Clayton Taylor, John Taylor and Thomas Taylor.
Mrs. Smith is survived by a son, Tim Smith, Birmingham; a daughter and son-in-law, Terri and Steve Francis, Dothan; four grandchildren, Caroline Smith, Birmingham, Sarah, Will and Zack Francis, all of Dothan.
