Mrs. Mattie Lou Baxley of Forrest Street, Slocomb passed away Saturday, Nov. 10, 2007, at the family residence after an extended illness. She was 86.
Funeral services will be 2 p.m. today at First Baptist Church in Slocomb with the Rev. Dan Raley officiating. Burial will follow in Slocomb City Cemetery with Sorrells Funeral Home of Slocomb directing. The body will be placed into the church one hour before service time.
Mrs. Mattie was born July 11, 1921, in Geneva County to the late Leslie and Lillie Killingsworth Bradshaw. She was an active member of First Baptist Church in Slocomb. She was also retired from Phillip Van Heusen Shirt Factory. Her greatest love and passion was working for her Lord and Savior in whatever capacity she was offered. She had a strong and burning desire to share Jesus with the little children as well as the older adults. When someone was in need, she was always willing to offer a willing heart and helping hand.
The family would like to give a special thanks to the entire staff of Southern Care Hospice for all your love and attention that was given to her during her last days here on earth.
Also to her doctors, M. Scott McAllister, M.D., and J. Edwin Morriss III, M.D., your kindness and medical care for her will never be forgotten.
Survivors include her husband, George Baxley, Slocomb; two daughters, June Chestnut (Bobby), Abbeville, Vonnie Lowe, Largo, Fla.; one sister, Audrey Fortune, of Slocomb; two brothers, James Bradshaw and Calvin Bradshaw both of Slocomb; six grandchildren, Renee Hall, Kelly Sheffield (Bo), Robyn Mims (Kirt), Lee Chestnut (Angela, Greg and Jeff Cook; 12 great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews
